There are many advantages of SOA over Urea. 

  • Sulphur which is overlooked in importance in our soils for nitrogen use efficiency 
  • Sulphur for protein and oil content
  • Sulphur enhances uptake of other nutrients including locked up phosphorus. 
  • Ammonium nitrogen is very stable compared to Urea 
  • Ammonium nitrogen non-volatile 
  • Ammonium nitrogen is much less prone to leaching 
  • Ammonium nitrogen taken up by plants in balance with other nutrients 
  • More resilience in plants against insect and fungal attacks 
  • Less screenings in grain with a dry finish 
  • SOA is friendlier to the soil biology 
  • SOA does not acidify soil like Urea

At Soil Management Systems we are all about healthy living soils which pay great dividends for future generations. Which is why we promote SOA. Urea should only be applied at low rates or as a foliar with a buffer if we want to look after soils for the long term. But we need higher levels of Sulphur in much of our soils partly for its synergy with nitrogen and nitrogen use efficiency.
